Conscious Science! Amit Goswami

February 5th, 2012

Goswami is convinced, along with a number of others who subscribe to the same view, that the universe, in order to exist, requires a conscious sentient being to be aware of it. Without an observer, he claims, it only exists as a possibility. And as they say in the world of science, Goswami has done his math. Marshalling evidence from recent research in cognitive psychology, biology, parapsychology and quantum physics, and leaning heavily on the ancient mystical traditions of the world, Goswami is building a case for a new paradigm that he calls “monistic idealism,” the view that consciousness, not matter, is the foundation of everything that is.

From Fake Blood to Quantum Physics:

A Conversation With Bambi Killers

By Sophie Rae

The Bambi Killers play music, but don’t call it a band. It’s a group of artists, musicians, activists, magicians, pyrotechnicians, dimensional travelers, and vaudeville circus performers. The list goes on. But what’s more important than what you call these three women is their message: anti-brainwashing, pro-individual freedom, and tapping into the human potential. Whether they’re drinking fake blood out of coke cans, smashing TV sets, or singing about UFOs and quantum physics, the Bambi Killers aren’t afraid to say what they think, even if you’re afraid of hearing it.

‘Time cloak’ hid event in experiment, physicists say

January 5th, 2012

A team of physicists at Cornell University has created a wrinkle in time. Actually, it’s more like a teeny tiny moth hole in time. Inside it things can occur that are entirely undetectable, at least to ordinary observers. It’s as if they never happened.

This phenomenon, known as “temporal cloaking,” is the latest addition to a world that once existed only in children’s literature and science fiction — a place where objects are invisible and events are unrecorded.

Temporal cloaking, like spatial cloaking, is not magic. It follows all the ironclad laws of physics and is to some extent a parlor trick, albeit performed in a highly unusual parlor. Whether it will have a use isn’t known, as the hole in time created by the Cornell team lasts only 50 trillionths of a second.

Mexico Mayan region launches apocalypse countdown

Only 52 weeks and a day are left before Dec. 21, 2012, when some believe the Maya predicted the end of the world.

Unlike enthusiasts of other doomsday theories who suggest putting together survival kits, southeastern Mexico, the heart of Maya territory, plans a yearlong celebration.

Cities and towns in the Mayan region on Wednesday will start the yearlong countdown. In Chiapas the town of Tapachula on the Guatemalan border will start a countdown on an 8-foot digital clock in the main park exactly a year before the mysterious date.

The Maya reputation for wisdom has people taking the alleged prediction seriously.

The Mayan civilization, which reached its height from 300 A.D. to 900 A.D., had a talent for astronomy

Its Long Count calendar begins in 3,114 B.C., marking time in roughly 394-year periods known as Baktuns. Thirteen was a significant, sacred number for the Mayas, and they wrote that the 13th Baktun ends on Dec. 21, 2012.

The doomsday theories stem from a stone tablet discovered in the 1960s at the archaeological site of Tortuguero in the Gulf of Mexico state of Tabasco that describes the return of a Mayan god at the end of a 13th period.

Awesome!

December 6th, 2011

MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. — Virtually all of the alien planet candidates discovered by NASA’s Kepler space telescope may turn out to be the realdeal, a new study suggests.

Researchers announced today (Dec. 5) that Kepler has detected2,326 potential alien worlds in its first 16 months of operation, including 48 in their stars’ habitable zones — that just-right range of distances that could allow liquid water, and maybe even life, to exist.

While the vast majority of these planets have yet to be confirmed, 99.9 percent or so may end up making the cut, according to the study. That would mean Kepler’s finds to date would more than quadruple the number of known alien worlds, which currently stands at a little more than 700.
